CGI Your Story: Use The Visuals Of The Movie World
To Inspire Your Story, Be It Fantasy Or A Non-magic Using Tale

Presenter: Beth Daniels, aka Beth Henderson, J.B. Dane, Nied Darnell

Do your eyes grow large, your mouth hang open in awe when you sit in a movie theatre or stream a movie at home and see movie magic before you? I’ll bet that the actors who did all their work before blank green screens, or were suspended or yanked around on guidewires in fight scenes, go to the premiers to be just as amazed at how everything fell together in the final product.

Wouldn’t it be great to give your READER a similar experience to the one in the theatre where everything comes together in truly amazing and imaginary ways? Well, you can paint those pictures in your reader’s mind. And this workshop will help you get your team together.

A team that may have a few people from the outside world (outside of the world of the book, that is) on it. Folks like critique partners, Beta readers. But it also has your imagination working overtime and calling meetings with your cast to get their input. Hey, we all know we talk to our characters, so don’t say that can’t happen. If they’re talking to you, well, turn their fiendish minds to how to really rock and sock those scenes into movie worthy spectacles!

You don’t have to be writing fantasy, though of course that will really use the CGI element, but if you’ve got fight scenes, chases, even really interesting date settings for your romantic characters (skiing, snorkeling, hang gliding, ridge running in a glider as in the sequence in The Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan), it will all revolve around the way you model the descriptions that can boost the excitement level for a reader.

Bring your project. Bring scenes from visuals – can be movies, photographs, even music! I’ve used music often as my inspiration while writing action scenes (and love scenes qualify as “action” scenes, don’t they?), particularly movie soundtracks but also soft jazz, heavy rock, and whatever else you might already use to get in the scene yourself. We’ll be cranking these tales up with our own brand of CGI effects.
