Have a fresh idea for a romance novel, but you just don't know where to start? Looking for a compromise between writing from the seat of your pants and writing from a detailed outline?
  • Learn how giving your characters GMC (goals, motivations, and conflicts) can make them richer and more believable.
  • Learn how different, simple plotting techniques can act as a guide for your book by giving it structure, without stifling your creativity or discovery of the story.
  • Find out how other authors plot (or don’t) and how there's no one right way to get that book written.
In this workshop you'll learn a number of techniques for getting the bones of your story down so you can get to the fun part: writing your romance.

*** At the end of the workshop, you'll walk away with a completed beat sheet (or set of plot points) and the tools to get you started on your new book!
Syllabus
  • GMC: What is GMC and how do goal, motivation, and conflict make your characters richer and more believable, as well as help you develop their character arcs.
  • Beat sheets: What the heck are beat sheets? What are the different plotting tools and techniques that writers can use as a guide or roadmap for their books?
  • Tools and tips for getting your book written and edited.
  • Other romance author processes (or lack of) will be shared throughout the class to illustrate how we all create differently and how there is no right way to write YOUR book.
