It's a crowded market out there. There are thousands of books being released each week. Does your hook stand out?

The Hook - It's one small line in the grand scheme of things, but it is arguably THE most important line we write for the book. Cliffhangers - Absolutely essential in this day and age. You're competing with TikTok and SnapChat. The 24-hour breaking news and Facebook--all forms of quick and easy entertainment. Let's not even mention Netflix! And what about that last chapter? If your last chapter doesn't fulfill, entice and propel a reader to the next book in your series, that reader is going elsewhere--and that's the last thing you want. You want to be associated with the word autobuy.

And you do that by hooking your reader again and again.

In this two-week class, award-winning author Kathy Otten will teach you how to grab your reader and keep them turning the pages. It all starts with a hook, but it ends with the very last sentence. You'll learn the elements of a knock-out opening, and whether you should have a prologue. You'll also learn the aspects of an engaging cliffhanger, and how to snatch the reader's interest chapter after chapter. There will also be time to share your hook with the instructor and your classmates to see how strong your hook is, and if it can be made stronger.
