Workshop #1: February 27 - March 12, 2023
You can spend anywhere from $100 to $1000 just having your book formatted for upload to Kindle. What these “professionals” won’t tell you is that you can do this yourself for free in about 15-30 minutes. For eBooks, all you need is a simple docx file with a few easy to add modifications. For print, you can also create a docx file. Doing it by hand takes a bit more time, but Kindle has a downloadable program you can use to simplify the process. In fact, you can create files to upload to Kindle in less than one hour.
This course shows you how to format your manuscript for Kindle eBooks, paperbacks, and hardbound editions. Student’s who have taken this course before have saved thousands of dollars by performing a simple half-hour chore requiring no coding or highly technical skills. If you can use a word processor, you have all the skills you need.
You will learn how to use a free program from Kindle to quickly create a single file you can use to create both ebooks and print volumes in minutes. However, if you prefer to have more control over the look of your manuscript, you will also learn how to format these documents manually so you can use specific fonts and other formatting options.
In this course, you will learn:
Workshop #2: March 13 - March 26, 2023
Back in the day, when books were sold primarily through bookstores, most people saw only the spine of the book until they took it off the shelf. A fortunate few got their books featured “face out in shelves at the end of the aisles or on book tables.
Today, with online book sales being the primary mode of sales, especially for indie authors, every book is sold “face out.” That image, not much bigger than a commemorative postage stamp, is the first impression your book makes on a potential reader.
Fortunately, by understanding a few basic design concepts using free graphic design programs, anyone can create professional, compelling book covers for both eBooks and paperbacks. This course will teach you everything you need to know to stand out from the crowd when someone scrolls past your book on Amazon.
