Hey, there!
I'm Amy LeTourneur (pronounced la-turner): wife, mother of four, and soon-to-be-retired home school teacher. <insert happy dance> I've been a full-time mom for nearly twenty-five years, and as our nest has slowly emptied, one question has wiggled into the forefront of my mind:
What do I want to be when I grow up?
I dabbled with writing stories for decades, but I never had the time or energy or brainpower (thanks to the aforementioned children
) to complete a manuscript. But as the kids grew, I became less a home school
teacher and more a home school
facilitator, leaving me time and energy (and even a little brainpower) to devote to my writing. I competed in NaNoWriMo for the first time in 2016, and it was just the kick-start my creative juices needed. I "won" NaNo that year, writing 50k words in just eighteen days, and the intensive and immersive writing experience helped me zero in on the fact that
this is what I want to do when I grow up!
Since then, I've devoted myself to learning all I can about my craft (though there's still SO much more to learn!) and honing my skills as a writer. I spent two years shaping that (really,
really) rough first draft into my first completed YA manuscript, and it is now ready for critique. <gulp>
In addition to writing for passion, I also write for a living. I'm an AWAI-trained copywriter, offering copywriting, copyediting, and content writing services for the RV & travel industries (with a little bit of graphic design thrown into the mix). In early 2019, I'll be donning a "blogger" hat when I launch my blog about our personal journey to buying and living full-time in our first RV.
Some people find the thought of an empty nest debilitating; I find it invigorating! I'm so excited about the path my life has turned down in the last couple of years, and I look forward to learning and growing even more through groups like this one.
