I earned my first check for writing at age 16 winning a national poetry contest. Later at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, I earned a B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Theatre History, while reporting on the arts beat for the Indiana Daily Student newspaper. My favorite assignment was interviewing Marcel Marceau. I was awarded membership in Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists. After my husband and I graduated, we moved to New Orleans where I worked as a Technical Writer and Training Officer for Hibernia National Bank, a Fortune 500 company. It was later acquired by Capital One.
In New Orleans, I served on the Board of the American Institute of Banking and on the Board of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). At night, I also taught English classes through the American Institute of Banking. After our daughter was born, my family dared me to take the test for Mensa. I qualified.
Later, we moved to Florida, where I taught report writing at the Police Academy and began freelance writing. My writing has appeared in the St. Petersburg Times, AOPA Pilot magazine (the largest circulation general aviation magazine), Christianity Today, City Elite (Ft. Worth/Dallas lifestyle magazine), General Aviation News, The Flying Physician, Water Flying, Pipers Magazine, Medical Precis, Tampa Bay Sounding, and other publications. I’ve published news, celebrity profiles, poetry, essays, a play, and hundreds of feature articles for magazines.
In 1996, I earned a private pilot’s license and followed that with the instrument rating in 2000. We enjoy flying between our home in Florida and a cabin in North Carolina.
