Hello - was very pleasantly surprised to see Savvy Authors show up in my mail box - blast from the past!! I have already signed up for three courses!

My name is Sharon Ferguson but I have chosen "Mary Thornell" as my pen name for some very personal reasons. I have a WIP that has been foundering away for the last several years, mostly because of some life events that took a lot of energy and spirit out of me, but in the last few months I have been trying to get back to because the creative part of me has been screaming to be let out. My draft novel is what I call a historical fantasy with a scavenger hunt premise involving some (not so scientific) time -travel. Its a bit more complicated than Diana Gabaldon's method but not a futuristic means at all either. Anyway, it has been languishing because I hit the Mushy Middle with full force and I had to come to terms with the fact that my characters were not as developed as I thought they were, especially my villain/antagonist(s). I was also flopping around a lot as to how to make my opening chapter a lot more meaningful and clear for my MC. Im hoping that by resolving these issues I can get a much better sense of my villain and the kind of conflict he will provide and finalize a proper ending for this story that Ive been let stew in my mind for a decade now.

I am married and an empty nester who works a part-time remote position for a telecommunications company. I dont mind telling you Id much rather be drawing maps, but only because Im currently working on getting some certifications in GIS. I am a native Texan, living west of Houston and I love history (hence the WIP), reading, writing, and crafts. I have a degree in Anthropology with a minor in Geography.

Hi Sharon!

It's so great to e-meet you. We are thrilled to have you back in the SavvyAuthors community.

What a great pen name! It sounds very professional. :) We are glad the creative part of you gave you a nudge to return to your writing. Historical fantasy is such a cool genre, and fantasy has been so hot.

I know all about undeveloped characters (bane of my existence in my own writing!), and I hope the workshops help you polish up your mushy middle.

Welcome to the SavvyAuthors community! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. You can send me a private message through the site or email me directly HERE.
