Mondays are always times when we are less likely to get a lot done. We seem scattered and unable to focus on our goals. Our minds seem to be everywhere except on task. If you are one of these people who struggles to stay on task and be productive on Mondays, you’re not alone.
Many writers struggle to have a productive Monday, me included. But I am more successful if I remember to do the following.
I plan what I will accomplish for the upcoming week on Friday or Saturday. I write down those goals and post them in a place where I could see them Monday morning.

Many writers struggle to have a productive Monday, me included. But I am more successful if I remember to do the following.
I plan what I will accomplish for the upcoming week on Friday or Saturday. I write down those goals and post them in a place where I could see them Monday morning.
- I take five or ten minutes on Sunday evening to take stock of my week and what I must do on Monday to advance my goals. I highlight those and again write them down.
- I tidy up my desk and only place the files that I absolutely need for my tasks on Monday on my desk. The rest of my papers and files get filed. That way, I won’t be distracted by other tasks.
- When the time comes to write on Monday, I go into my office, set a timer for 25 minutes, take out my file folder or open my computer program. As I start the timer, I start to work. And for the full 25 minutes, I do nothing but write. When the buzzer goes off, I get up, walk around the house for 5 minutes, and replenish my tea or coffee mug. This helps me to get ready to delve into my writing again.
- Then I come back into my office, set the timer for another 25 minutes and write. Once the buzzer goes off, I take another 5-minute break and start my next 25-minute writing session. As soon as I complete three or four 25-minute intense writing sessions, I am in the habit of writing without any distractions and its easier to just keep writing for the rest of the day until I must stop.
