Well, these are the final days of 2023. It’s hard to believe that another year has gone by.
I hope you are enjoying the holidays. But try and give yourself time to do even a bit of writing a few times a week.
This is also a good time to think about what you want to accomplish in 2024.
I find it’s always helpful to clean out my writing space before the New Year. Declutter your office, file stuff away, and put the projects that you want to complete in file folders or accordion files. I plan to do that right after Christmas.
I accumulate so many papers, magazines, and notes as a writer that it can all become a bit overwhelming, plus it’s more difficult to find things in all the clutter. Once I lose something, it usually takes me a long time to locate it.
I also like to read at least one good book about some aspect of writing during the holidays. So, I will do that, too. The book I chose to read this holiday is Writing as a Path to Awakening by Albert Flynn DeSilver.
And, of course, I make sure my current mission statement is still accurate, and then I create a few major goals for next year that are in alignment with that mission.
Next, I make an action plan for reaching those goals. This is just as important as having a mission statement.
After things quiet down a bit in a few days, sit down and think about what you hope to accomplish next year.
Be sure you know your purpose or mission as a writer, then create no more than 3 major writing goals for next year and your action plan for reaching those goals.
Try it!
Happy Holidays!
