Hi all,

Here is your last lesson for the month.

Next week, your assignment will be to catch up on all of your lessons. I encourage all of you to submit your answers to these questions each week.

In the meantime, here is this week's lesson and assignment.

Have fun, and have a productive week!

Irene

1. My biggest challenge is knowing which project to work on, And constant interruptions when I write.
2. Turn off my phone when I write. Put a do not disturb sign on door.
Use an egg timer.
Work on one project at a time until completed or completely stuck.
Hi Caren,

Decide which project you will work on the evening before. Then, when the time comes to write, just sit down and write.

Also, yes, definitely put a do not disturb sign on the door and set an egg timer. I would also suggest just going out and working in a very inspiring setting like a library or even a university library. That will really help you to focus more and get you away from the usual habits that you may have gotten yourself into.

Let me know how you do!

My biggest challenge in follow through is distraction. I have so many things on my plate, having enough time to do them all is difficult and things get pushed to the side.

Steps I will take to ensure follow through is to schedule each task for shorter periods, so I have more time to meet deadlines, and accomplish multiple tasks.

I will not answer the phone during work times
I will schedule in fun.
I will set a timer to limit myself on each task.

Hi Greta,

That is a great 3 step process to conquering distraction. However, I would also have a very firm idea of what I wanted to work on before I start writing the next day.

If you would you like to discuss this during our coaching call, please let me know.

Take care,
Irene

My biggest challenge is time. I have a hodge podge of jobs that go through busy seasons. I do get paid to write -- and right now that and my dog walking business are in a busy season. It is not uncommon for me to work from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and whatever breaks I do have involve laundry, cooking dinner, driving my daughter somewhere etc.

It is what it is. This is how I pay the bills.

WHen I do have free time - like today. I go all out and "catch up." Every day I do what I have to stay in the mindset. I joined a writer's group and attend weekly while my daughter is at dance whether I have something to share or not.

Hi there,

I hear you! Time is a real problem, especially if you are doing other things. Having a full-time job can be very challenging.

I believe that one of the most important ways to keep writing is to write consistently. This means to write every day, even if it is for no more than half an hour. You can break it up too, to two 15-minute sessions. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it really is, and it can amount to completing a lot of manuscripts every year.

If you need further help with this, just email me at [email protected].

All the best!
