Hi all,

Here is your lesson for this week. You will get a chance to draft your story all in one sitting.

Please block out some time to write for about 5 hours or so.

Some of you have been asking about where to send your stories. Well there is a lot of choice! This is great news! And many of these publications accept and even encourage new writers to submit their work.

I have found a website which will give you 23 ideas on where to pitch your stories. It is at this URL: Where to Submit Short Stories: 25 Magazines and Online Publications

Have fun writing your story and choosing three to five places to send it to once it is written and finalized.

I’d better post this now, or I’ll fiddle with it the rest of the week instead of working on my WIP. This is for a Wild West + aliens anthology that’s looking for a story between 5-7k. Though, they might have wanted something a bit more lighthearted. And I’m not 100% sure of the ending. I don’t think it has the impact I want yet. I want to show Etta overcoming her pride...

Also, some other places to look for markets are Ralan’s Webstravaganza, the submission grinder, and submishmash.

Hi Mel!

Thank you! I will read it over tomorrow and send my comments.

It is far better to simply post your short story. It will be GREAT!

Take care,

Hi Mel!

Wow! This is a very powerful story. It has all the flare and depth that is necessary to really make the story great!

It is a bit on the longer side. Is there a place that you have to send this story? I ask because it is ready to go. There are no pacing problems or structural problems at all. It is a well-crafted story that I would love to see published.

Let me know what your ideas are for pitching this story.

Take care, and GREAT GREAT job!!!!!

Irene!

Thank you Irene! I’ll be submitting it shortly then.

I found a call for a specific anthology that I wrote it too. They were looking for stories from 5-7 thousand words about aliens in the old west with the words “Reach for the sky somewhere” in the story. If it doesn’t land there, I will try submitting it to the Escape Pod podcast, though for there I might need to cut a couple hundred words since it looks like their ceiling is 6000 words.

Hoping to get my own short story finished in the next few days, the hard bit's done, it's drafted but I need 2-3 hours edit to weed out superfluous rubbish, get the event order correct (I just write stuff down in whatever order it comes, things are rarely linear, so I do teh surgery to realign, LOL!!!) 2 hours would do a lot, and I've a home in mind for it too (the People's Friend, a UK magazine).
