Hi ladies!

I know the new year is still a few weeks away, but you should start reflecting on which goals you would like to tackle next year. Try to have no more than 3 main goals to work on.

First reflect on your past year. Do some journalling in your success/writer's journal. Then take some time to set your goals for the next year. It is best to do this before Christmas so that you can have everything set once the new year starts.

Once you decide on your three main writing goals, please post them under this thread.

Take care, and have a great week!

Hello, Irene and Crew! I love working in my journals and planners for a fresh new year!

My three main goals for 2023 are:
1. Scale up my content writing business and move into better-paying copywriting, as well
2. Finally finish and indie-publish the first 1-3 short novels (or maybe they'll end up being novellas) in a romcom series I've been working on for years
3. Continue to focus on skill-building (reading, courses, mentorships, daily practices, etc.) to keep growing my income and writing expertise

Hi,

I didn't achieve my goal to finish a dozen novels last year. I didn't even finish the one I am currently working on. Nevertheless, I am pleased with my progress and feel like I've learned a lot this past year.

One of the things I learned was that I have unrealistic ideas about how long things take. I gave up some responsibilities last year as well as some personal expectations unrelated to writing, and found I was happier for it. This year I've already given up two responsibilities.

While I didn't finish my novel, I can see the end. That is a big accomplishment. I learned about plotting and I took that unwieldly manuscript and put it into a spreadsheet where I can make notes and evaluate where I am. I can see the end now. I know the number of chapters I have to edit and the number of chapters I have to write. That might change along the way but I am feeling really good about it.

Late last year I was introduced to the Chunky system. What I took away from it is to not just set one time a day to write but several times throughout the day where you sit down and engage with your manuscript. I've found that when I do this I am more productive and as a bonus the story becomes something I'm involved with all day long.

Another thing I learned is that every change doesn't need to be made immediately. I don't have to go back to the beginning every time I develop something new in the story. I can make a note and go back.

For this year I am finishing my manuscript by the end of this month. Then I am going to make a plan for my next three projects during the year. My plan is to execute my current plan and then reevaluate and make a new one. I hope that counts as three goals.
