Title: Convict Island
Genre: YA Action/Adventure
Length: 67,000 words
Author: Mark Mosley

17yo Ashton didn’t expect to be tried as an adult when he took the fall for his brother's crime. Or to be sent to an island of adult convicts. And he sure as hell didn’t expect to meet another teenager there—let alone a girl that could help him escape the psychotic island dictator.

Mark, while this obviously would not meet Changeling’s guidelines for genres and themes (or length requirements), you've got a good start here. You've got at least 150 words left, so don’t be afraid to expand your blurb. Condense the sentence fragments into one line and you’ve got at least one more line available.

    Title: The Rigors of Murder

Sharon, you've used 46 of your 250 words, and only one of your three lines, so don't be afraid to expand your blurb. Make sure you address the questions requested, including genres/themes, and length. Genres, from a practical standpoint, means “How would I classify this when I list it on Amazon." Caper is not a genre you'll find listed on any reseller, so it doesn’t tell me how it would fit at Changeling..

As presented I can’t tell if the genres and themes would meet Changeling's submissions guidelines. I can tell it does not meet our requirements for length. If the genres and themes are acceptable, could it be serialized? (Obviously this wouldn’t work if the sex is all in the last third)

This would not meet Changeling's submissions guidelines, due to genres, themes, and length, but it is a nicely done pitch. You've used 68 of your 250 words, and only one of your three lines, so don't be afraid to expand your blurb -- you still have 2 lines and 150+ words left.

Hi Thomas,

The genres and length here aren't a match for Changeling, but you've one a nice job with the pitch. Best of luck!

Thanks for your kind words. I thought Action Adventure would be a fit, but I now see that the lengths of your publications are much less than mine.

The genres are more important than the length -- if it were Women's Erotic Romance we'd considering serializing (Assuming the sex is distributed fairly evenly throughout the book and not all lumped up at the end).
Pitches are now closed. Thanks for participating in Hot Summer Pitchfest!
