Cinderella at the Prom: How to do Write a Retelling with JoSelle Vanderhooft

Genre-Romance Cinderella at the Prom: How to do Write a Retelling with JoSelle Vanderhooft

This class offered some useful information but I was hoping for more assistance on plot and creating a retelling. The description stated that the goal of this course is to give students a rough outline for a retelling of their own, but that was never the focus, or maybe the information was broad but we weren't given smaller steps to write the outline. Students were left to do that on their own. I was looking for a little more practical "how to." Don't get me wrong, there were definitely some great tips. I appreciated the cautions in doing retellings and the reminder to be culturally sensitive. I also liked the lesson on using as much detail as possible in the story to make it real.
I think I was the only person in the class and I think I understand why. If this was the only class I had taken from Savvy I wouldn't take another. However, the other two classes I have been taking have been worth the money. This class made me wish I had bought one of the many very good 'Line Editing' books on Amazon.

With respect, the instructor assigned work but did not comment on it until I asked the administrators if I was posting it in the incorrect place, and then she did quite sometime later, but only the one assignment out of the four I posted. I stopped doing the assignments after that. The instructor's lessons were short, and some were out of order, misnamed, or the wrong content altogether.

I am convinced that the instructor's expertise is excellent, but that didn't translate to any value to me, unfortunately. I think she is a very busy person who didn't have time to devote to teaching a subject rather than just posting some short topically relevant information. Angela Nights class uses the same forum, and she does not assign homework, but her content is, well, amazing and presented in a why that 'teaches' and she answers questions and comments, and thus the class worth every penny.

In all honesty, I would have rated it a one star, but the feedback I did receive for assignment #1 was quite qood, and I was starting to learn. But it came so late, and none of the others were commented on, so.....
