The Pacific ocean, the deepest ocean on earth, is almost 7-miles deep. Can you imagine how many layers of this beautiful life-force are unlocked with every mile down? In this workshop, we’ll be applying the 7-Miles Deep process to understanding and unlocking the layers of Deep POV in your manuscript. By the end of this workshop, you’ll never want to write surface-level again.

Deep POV is a method of storytelling through your point-of-view character(s) that allows the reader to become the character and forget they are reading. Can you imagine how engaging your story would be if the readers lost themselves in your book?

We will work through a 7-step process that will have you:
  • understanding POV choices
  • figuring out if Deep POV is right for your story
  • understanding the difference between surface level and deep
  • get clear on what makes Deep POV so deep
  • provide tools and strategies so you can apply it to your work, and more.

This course is for you if…
  • you write third person POV but wish it felt like first-person
  • you write first-person POV because you don’t think you can manage the level of closeness in third person
  • you write third person POV with multiple characters but struggle to make them all sound unique
  • you already write deep POV in first-person or third person and want to get even better
Class Format
Savvy Authors' workshops are held on a forum: a bulletin board based system. You will receive a reminder notice one day prior to the start of the workshop that includes instructions on how to access the workshop forum. 7 miles Deep = 7 lessons and a multitude of revelations about my writing. The class was well-constructed and presented. Katie’s approach was consultative teaching, which, to some, might seem lacking in criticism. However, learning how to do what we do has more impact on our art than being scolded about what we did wrong without the tools to fix it. To reap the rewards of Deep POV, a writer must fully understand their character, inside and out. If they did not do exploration up front, it tripped up a few writers since for some that can take weeks, months, or years. This class has changed my writing in so many ways, I really enjoyed it.
I thought the material presented was excellent and I'll value the addition to my library of resources. It was well worth the fees. I think our expectations of feedback to each exercise could be made clearer. When Katie sent her message on May 5 exhorting us to complete and submit the lesson 3 homework it gave me the impression that would be the only session I could expect feedback. This caused me to relax in getting timely completion of the remaining exercises as I was quite busy myself. I wasn't particularly worried as my observation of Katie's feedback was it emphasized encouragement over critique, which is fine, we all need encouragement, but in my case, I was ok not having to stress on getting homework completed on time if I'm just missing some atta boys. They're nice but they don't really make me a better writer.
