Every novel has common parts of scenes, such as moving the plot forward, revealing character, motivation, inner/external conflict, etc. These universal necessities will make up the first part of the workshop and be fleshed out and explained.
In addition, romance has some specific things readers expect to see. In the other half of this workshop we'll dive deeper into:
Meet cute
First kiss
Confession/realization of love
Rough patch/breakup
Love proven
Reunion/HEA/HFN
There will also be a checklist of things a writer should ask themselves about every scene while they're first crafting the scene and as they're revising. This checklist includes topics like:
Is there a strong opening hook?
Does the scene portray a proper passage of time?
Are you providing valuable information to the reader?
Is the scene showing and not telling?
A second checklist will talk about some gotchas many authors are plagued by.
This workshop is geared toward both beginning writers and more advanced authors.

- Savvy Authors' workshops are held on a forum: a bulletin board based system. You will receive a reminder notice one day prior to the start of the workshop that includes instructions on how to access the workshop forum. If you have not received instructions by the day the workshop begins, please check your spam filter.
The forum will be available the morning (EST) of the day the workshop starts and will remain accessible to all participants thereafter. You will also be given simple instructions on how to create a PDF of all your discussions along with our privacy and data retention policy.
