In this four week intermediate picture book workshop, you will build on the basic picture writing course by writing two to four new picture book manuscripts. Although this workshop is designed for the intermediate and advanced student, I will start off by outlining the basic process that is involved in writing a picture book for those who didn’t take my first workshop. There are many stages to the writing of a picture book as well as the revision process. I will outline these stages in detail in this workshop.
After taking this workshop, children’s writers will be able to submit up to four picture book manuscripts to potential publishers or agents. In addition, writers will be able to write their picture book manuscripts during the workshop and send off to publishers.

- Syllabus
- Week 1: Review of the basic process of picture book writing.
Assignment 1: Submit a first draft of a picture book for assessment.
Week 2: Build on the basic skills and revise your first picture book and write your second picture book.
Assignment 2: Submit your second picture book for assessment or submit a redraft of your first picture book.
Week 3: Build on the basic skills further and revise your second picture book and write your third picture book.
Assignment 3: Submit your third picture book for assessment or submit a redraft of your second picture book.
Week 4: Build on the basic skills even further and revise your third picture book and write your fourth picture book.
Assignment 4: Submit your fourth picture book for assessment and look for potential markets for all of your picture books and get ready to send out a cover letter and your picture books.
