Hi, all. I'm brand new to this and I have a question about the etiquette of pitch events like the one that's coming up. If there are agents I currently have a query out with, should I avoid pitching to them? Or should I make sure I *do* pitch to them? If I'm querying someone else at their agency, could I still pitch to them? If they've rejected an earlier query but my project has changed drastically, could I still pitch to them? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Sarah, Just my take but -- I wouldn't pitch in this format to someone who currently is evaluating my query because a pitch-request is essentially an invitation to query (maybe with extra materials/pages). {If it were an in-person conference, that would be different; I'd always try to meet an agent I was actively querying.} -- For same-agency pitches, follow the rules of the agency. If the agent who is currently considering your query has only had it for a standard-initial amount of time (depends on their turn-around; I'd give a minimum of 3 months), then I wouldn't query a second agent there, unless/until you're ready to withdraw it from the first. -- If re-pitching with a dramatically revised manuscript, I'd note that above/below the pitch. Most agents prefer to see new material, unless they've specially encouraged a revise-resubmit. ... ... Also if you are seriously querying and haven't yet joined QueryTracker (which can help you identify an agent's average response times and % of responses) then I would highly recommend it. I found it worth the $ annual fee if you're sending out at least 2 dozen queries. And it connects automatically to submissions through QueryManager. {EXCEPT unfortunately it has been experiencing some server-connection issues & downtime recently!} ... ... Another good resource if you're starting/preparing to pitch is The Manuscript Academy (developed by founder of #MSWL manuscript wish list, Jessica Sinsheimer) with lots of great podcasts on the topic, like ‎The Manuscript Academy: Pitching Agents Vs. Pitching Small Presses, Indie Success & Magical Realism on Apple Podcasts Another place for info and advice is ReviseResub with an upcoming raffle Oct.14th of editorial #10queries feedback October 2022 10Queries

Hi Sarah
Definitely read Cathy's thoughtful and detailed reply! Lots of good information in that. Also, please review the Pitch FAQ. We specifically ask that you not pitch to more than one agent/editor in a specific agency/publication.
Thanks and good luck!
