Hi ladies,

If you haven't signed up for your chance at a modified NaNoWriMo, please do so before the end of the month.

In addition, take some time to define the parameters of your NaNoWriMo. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself.

  • What do you plan to write during in November/December? Is it a full manuscript, finish up a manuscript that you have been working on or some other combination of manuscripts?
  • Have you discussed your plans with your family? This is an important step because you don't want to be fighting with your family all the time for even a bit of time to write.

Once you answer these questions for yourself in your writer's journal, please post your responses here under this thread.

Good luck, and have fun with this!

For NaNoWriMo 2019, I'll be working on the 2nd book in my first series of novels which are steamy contemporary romances. At the moment, I've written about 7,000 words of this book so far. I just finished the 1st draft of the first book in this series a couple of weeks ago, and I'll be working on the editing of that book while I'm speeding writing this second one in November! :)

I’m not planning on new words for November. So, I think my modified NaNo will be an EdMo. If I follow official “EdMo“ rules that would be shooting for 50 hours of editing. I don’t know about that since I have a toddler, but maybe a goal of 1 hour/day of editing * 6 days a week. I’ve got four books I’m going through, so even if I finish one, there’s another waiting behind it. Lol.

Hi Mel!

I love your goal! Yes, with a toddler, it can be hard.

But our word counts can be posted until January 30th, now. So, you can work on it until then!

I hope this time frame helps you.

Take care,
Irene

Hi Mel!

GREAT! Yes, you can also revise if you would like! It is all progress for a writer.

Since you have four books to revise, I think that is a good goal to have.

Yes, I'm sure you could do 1 hr/day, 6 days a week. Don't forget, you could break it down into smaller segments, such as 15 minutes at a time.

Let me know how it goes, and we can brainstorm some solutions if you have problems.

Take care,
Irene

Ok. So, I'd like to write 50,000 words of my villain's story. My current WIP, Scar, has been in progress forever, and I used my first and only NaNo to write a good part of the backstory for one of the story's main characters. Now, I'd like to do the same thing for the story's villain. I'll have one more main character, the protagonist, left whose story I'll need to write, so maybe I can do that post-NaNo.

My goal for this week is to plot my WIP. I've been pantsing the manuscript but after taking a class on writing historical fiction I received some feedback that indicates I need to do more planning before I start writing. I'll probably have to start over as a result of changes and feedback from the class.

My writing goals will have to be low for the month of November due to family gatherings happening this month. Starting the 18th, I will start writing and set a goal for 100 words per day. The low word count goal will also allow me to spend time adjusting my plot if necessary and wrap up the assignments for the writing class.

Now that I'm back from my writers retreat at Incarnation Center, I'm heads down with NaNoWriMo in Irene's group during the evening and weekends. Here are my plans:
  • What do you plan to write during in November/December? Is it a full manuscript, finish up a manuscript that you have been working on or some other combination of manuscripts?
    • November:
      • Finishing my outline to book 3 by Sat November 16th and arranging the scenes in a compelling way to move plot and characters forward
      • Start writing draft 1 of book 3, 6 days per week, target 600-800 words per day
    • December:
      • Continue writing draft 1 of book 3, 6 days per week, target 800 words per day
    • January :
      • Continue writing draft 1 of book 3, 6 days per week, target 800 words per day
      • Assess how far I've written per my outline and time required to finish draft 1 of book 3
  • Have you discussed your plans with your family? This is an important step because you don't want to be fighting with your family all the time for even a bit of time to write.
    • I've discussed writing plans from Now thru January 2020 with my husband and will establish an approach that we can live with for the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. (This will include decorating, wrapping gifts, cooking special foods which will keep hubby happy.)
    • This season, we plan to conserve our energy and stay close to home. Cooking and gatherings will be smaller scale which will allow me more time to write in the comfort of my home.

Hi Lauren!

The parameters for your Modified NaNo are GREAT! They are doable and I am glad that you are thinking of how to write through the Holidays. Once you have concise goals like this, it is easier to achieve them. GREAT job!!!

The Holidays is a great time, but a time warp for writers if they aren't careful! So, getting together with your family to discuss your writing plans and still enjoying the holidays is the perfect balance. I will be discussing how to write through the holidays in our forum next month, because I believe it is SO important for writers!

Take care, and let me know how you do! I am here for you!
