Hi writing friends!

It's almost August! I know I keep saying this, but really!!! Where is the time going?

We have one more month of summer and then unofficially we are moving into fall. What are your goals for this coming month?

Also, assess how you've been doing so far and see what you need to tweak and change so that you can get a bit more writing done.

For instance, do you need to:
  • Go to another place to write, such as outside or to your local library or cafe for an hour or so a few times a week?
  • Try another time of day, if the one you are trying to write in doesn't work because of distractions?
  • Ask for help so that you can make some time to write?
  • Negotiate with family and friends ahead of your writing time so that they can give you a bit of space to write?
  • Get rid of certain obligations that are not necessary?
  • Declutter your schedule and day so that you can have free time to write?
  • Work more effectively when you are writing?
  • Try to focus more so that you don't end up spending a lot of time writing?
  • Set SMART goals which are realistic and doable?
  • Take some time to practise self-care so that you aren't too overwhelmed by your life?
Take some time in the next few days to really do some soul searching for an hour or so and see how you can make August the best month of writing it can be.

If you need help in setting your goals, let's schedule some time to meet and chat.

Try it!

To a productive and fulfilling August!

Irene, thank you for your help working through my goals for the rest of the year. For august, I want to:
  • Draft and submit 4 articles and/or article pitches
  • Finish drafting my chapter book
  • Finish revising my almost-ready-to-query book
  • Write 6-8 blog posts (for one blog I am sometimes doing it every other week)
  • Attend a virtual nonprofit consulting conference at the end of August
I'm also starting a new part-time freelance gig that I'm very excited about. If I accomplish all of the above, I will feel really good about things.

Hi Irene,

I am learning to meditate and have asked the people in my home for help sticking to my writing time each month. I think I still have myself in the way some but I am working on that.

  1. I hope to finish The Witch this month as well as Bree's Rebellion.
  2. I would like to do my author's site but that has been falling by the wayside the last few months. It would only take me an hour or so. I will pick a date and stick to it.
  3. Stick to my blog schedule.
  4. I printed out your post on creating an Author Platform and will start working on that this month.

I have had some setbacks in my writing, so my goals are pretty much the same except that I need to do some research for my time travel book in order to finish it. And then there is the blog. I do want to get that done. I also would like to write an ebook. So I guess my goals for August are:
1. Research Arizona and it's history
2. Finish putting my time travel novel into chapters and add additional scenes to fill in the gaps.
3. Write several blogs and decide on one that feels right to me.
4. Get back to my ebook (for those times when I get blocked on my other goals). :)
Wish me luck.
