Hi ladies,

Did you complete some of your goals last week? Please let me know under this thread.

What are your goals for the last few days of September? Its hard to believe, but we are 3 days away from the end of the month. When you plan your goals for this week, you may want to keep this mind.

Also, what are your goals for October! Dream big but realistic goals!

Take care, and have an awesome week!

Hi Irene =)

I hope you are having a wonderful Monday!

Last week was a bit of a hit for me in terms of writing both my WIP and my novella, I even achieved and surpassed my 500 words a day goal on most days. My misses were in following my new routine, writing a blog, and book review. I didn't yet finish ironing out some detail for my mystery so I can continue to work on that.

With that in mind here are my goals for this week:

  • Write at least 500 words daily of The Faerie Key
  • Write at least 500 words daily of Letters from a Late Rocker.
  • Start my new routine for real- which includes time for planning my writing.
  • Write one blog- Tuesday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM
  • Write one book review- Thursday 3:00 to 4:00 PM
  • Write one short story/ flash fiction. Friday 3:00 to 4:30 PM
  • Review/do one of the mini-intensives from the conference. Sunday
Writing out my weekly goals here really helps =) Thank you for creating this board. I will come later this week and write my October goals. I already know they include getting ready for NaNoWriMo.

Hi, Irene!

Oh wow, I really didn't make these goals from last week at all!
* one chapter per day, revision notes typed-in (from manuscript-print-outs) and pages marked up (on the computer) in preparation for revision work
* OR a minimum 5 pages-per-day, revised based on these notes (color-coded flags of edits to make) {reach-goal is 10 pgs/day, when time permits}
* OR one new full scene typed up (into the computer, based on a handwritten first-draft).
* OR one original new scene drafted in a first version, longhand, in my writing journal.

On the positive side, I *did* manage to spend at least a half-hour of uninterrupted-by-family, quality, focussed writing/revising time on the MS, went back a chapter and developed a few passages (adding emotion etc) a bit more, and then *almost* completed (1.5 pages to go) of revisions to the next chapter. So ...

Realistic goals for week of 9/28: Complete my in-progress chapter (#22) and redraft/revise and complete the next (#23) which includes a new POV scene to add and develop. - That will make 5 chapters completed over the course of September's almost-5 weeks. And would enable me to establish a realistic ongoing goal of 1 chapter revised-thoroughly per week, moving forward. Not as speedy as I *wish* I could be, but there is a benefit to having a sustainable pace to work my way through this Revisions round!
Stretch goal: Intensive work on this relatively new POV character -- Revising/developing the character's earlier scenes (which have only had a couple of drafts and need rewrite/shaping/sharpening) and adding in first-typed-drafts from my sketchy notes of the character's future scenes, so as to fill out his entire arc, over the course of the entire book.
Bonus: I'm considering entering #pitchwars by 10/1. My specific genre isn't quite the right match for any of the mentors there, but it may be worth it just for the practice (query/synopsis) and deadline-motivation, to spur me to add those missing scenes from the new POV into the ms.

Thanks for challenging us to make-and-reflect-on our goals and accomplishments!

Best,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,

That's okay that you didn't complete your goals.

You may want to plan for doing a bit less next week. That way you will get your goals done and perhaps even more stuff in addition to that.

Good for you for carving up some time to write uninterrupted!!! GREAT job!!! That is your path to success! You can do it!!!

We will discuss all of this during your coaching session this Thursday.

Take care,
Irene

Thanks Irene for the chat on Thursday :)

Goals for October:
* Revise 3-5 chapters of manuscript
* Prepare for and attend an intensive editing workshop (3 weeks of editing lessons/exercises, & a 1-week-long virtual class.)
* Develop professional connections with other writers:
1st week, attend a monthly local-writers'-group virtual-meeting & confirm plans for a new crit-group
& 3 weeks, complete 1 critique/exchange each week with new CPs
* Submit at least 1 pitch to the Autumn Pitchiest

I didn't quite finish my goal of last week which was to finalize all my index cards in scrivener so that is my goal this week and then to print out the entire manuscript and work on editing and writing needed scenes from there and maybe just maybe have a final draft at the end of October? ;)

These were my goals last week:
Write at least 500 to 700 words a day of my novella Red Girl
Brainstorm story ideas

I wrote an average of 700 words a day, but didn't brainstorm story ideas. I'm really pleased I hit my word count for the novella because I want to get the first draft completed by the end of the year. I have a loose outline which I'll revisit and tweak here and there.

THIS WEEK'S GOALS:
- Write 500-700 words a day of my in-progress novel
- Revisit and refine the outline of the novel
- Brainstorm story ideas if I have time
- Start structuring my writing time so that I can find time for my writing despite a hectic work schedule.
- Start keeping a writing journal
