So often the Prep Talks involving preparing for National Novel Writing Month (aka November to the rest of the world) insist that outlines and beat sheets are the only way to go whether you’re pounding out the 1667 words a day for NANO or simply getting ready to spin a story.
None of those things have ever worked for me. I’m a Pantser and proud of it. Yeah, I do a little bit of prethinking, but it isn’t as structured as using an outline or a beat sheet. I’ll even confess, that doing either or both would totally destroy the pleasure I take in spinning a story. And that includes times when I write myself into a box canyon and have to back up and head in a new direction. Or when I decide that the person who done the crime is simply too logical a selection and go looking for the person who REALLY did it!
Along the way, I’ve come up with some far less structured ideas to guide the way through a book than those despised outlines or beat sheets – well, despised by me. - Savvy Authors' workshops are held on a forum: a bulletin board based system. You will receive a reminder notice one day prior to the start of the workshop that includes instructions on how to access the workshop forum. If you have not received instructions by the day the workshop begins, please check your spam filter.
The forum will be available the morning (EST) of the day the workshop starts and will remain accessible to all participants thereafter. You will also be given simple instructions on how to create a PDF of all your discussions along with our privacy and data retention policy.
Please note that you do NOT need to be online at a specific time to access the lectures. This is NOT a live video based class.
