A Virtual Reality, Part Two: Realizing Intentions

On the run from an invasion, Gillian and friends try to reach the capital city, Tor Sylonia where the rest Suzanne's family was headed. The road to the capital was long and fraught with danger from bandits, fellow refugees, and a large mountain range blocks their way.
Book Blurb
In order to safely experience the intimate encounters she was too shy to attempt in real life, Gillian Lawrence, crack digital security analyst and part-time hacker, breached the high-security Lars-Afton Laboratories and initiated a virtual reality simulation prototype, uploading her consciousness for a weekend escapade. It was supposed to be over before anyone noticed her presence; she hadn't counted on Joshua, the network’s security AI, sending his sexy avatar to accompany her. She hadn’t anticipated the viral attack that corrupted the VR lab’s AI, Sheila, who was modeled after an erotic film actress, or her intense interest in Gillian’s “education.”

Under the enthusiastic tutelage of Suzanne Beech, Gillian Lawrence survived the aristocracy of The Cove long enough to make her search for suitors well known among their peers. When the infected Horde of the fertility She’ila Li Kee—otherwise known as Sheila, the corrupted AI of the simulation lab at Lars-Afton Laboratories—invaded, they had no choice but to run for their lives.

“Joshua, I can expl—”

Before my mind registered his turning, his arms were around me, pulling me tight to his chest, nearly wrapping himself around me. “Damn it, Gillian! Do not ever scare me like that again,” he sobbed into my hair.

Though startled by his strong emotional release, I was relieved at his lack of anger. He kissed my hair then worked his way down past my ear with small desperate kisses. I tilted my head. As soon as his soft lips touched my neck, the building heat that had nothing to do with relief and everything to do with sweet tension surged through me. I felt his hard response straining against my stomach and was glad the night was warm because I wanted our clothes gone so I could feel his bare skin against mine.

“Never,” I whispered, then adding the qualifier, “…on purpose.”

His large hands stroked my arms and back. “Gillian, I—” He kissed along my jaw.

“Yeah, me, too.”
