Wordpress used to be a simple blogging software. Even when it began adding more extensive web building capabilities, it still looked like "Just another Wordpress Site." But in the past five years, the level of sophistication makes it the perfect platform for small to mid-sized business - and writers to develop their own websites without paying someone like me 1000s of dollars to build a simple website.
During the three week workshop, the students will actually build their own website using Wordpress. I will do the same along with them. I will use video and fully illustrated print lessons to guide them through the process, share the most useful plug-ins, help with some basics of website design, and making websites mobile-friendly.
Here are a list of topics:
1. Do you need a website?
2. The first two questions to ask when designing a website
3. Getting to know WordPress
4. Creating a navigation plan
5. Choosing a Theme
6. Customizing a Theme
7. Customizing a Theme (for the tech adventurous)
8. Post or Page? When to use which.
9. Creating a Post
10. Creating a Page
11. Media (Images, Video, Audio) for WordPress
12. Useful plug-ins
13. Some legalities
