Tropes and cliches are useful tools you can use to help craft your story. But you can also break them to create a fresh breath of air in an otherwise stale plot. The romance genre has one of the most extensive lists of tropes around, and a collective of readers ready to defend them with everything they’ve got. In this workshop, we’ll explore the main romance tropes around and how you can use them in your story. We’ll also examine ways you can steer away from tropes and cliches without upsetting fans too much.

Lesson One: It’s Destiny - Learn the common romance tropes, why they’re so popular, and
how you can utilize them in your own stories.
Lesson Two: Veering Left - Learn ways to take common romance tropes and tweak them
slightly to create a fresh take on a story without straying too far from the classics romance
readers expect.
Lesson Three: Destruction - Learn effective methods for setting up common tropes and
then carefully deconstructing them in a powerful way.

Delightfully useful class. Clarifying the meet-cute /trope, how useful and important elements they are to a romance novel and how to make meet cutes and other tropes unique or 'your own.' I signed up for a second class by this instructor, knowing I would gain from registering.
The content was great and I liked how the teacher had homework for those who'd finished their manuscripts and those who were still working on their WIPs.
This course gives you reason to think about your romance and how to change it up.
