When you talk about fantasy books, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you can just do anything you want. But when you create a fantasy world or fantasy layer for our world, you have to ground your story in reality. Of course, you do get to create that reality. But if you don't abide by your own rules and setting, then readers can be pulled from the story and lost in the confusion of your world. In this workshop, writers will learn effective methods to help them create rules that make sense for their fantasy stories and how to keep worldbuilding consistent.

Lesson One: The Importance of Reality in Fantasy
Writers will learn more about why it's important to set up rules for a fantasy and stick to the reality they created.

Lesson Two: From the Ground Up
Writers will discover the main areas of fantasy that can often get detached from reality. We'll go over the common issues that can crop up and create methods to ensure our works are grounded in our fantastical realities.

Lesson Three: Keeping Up
Writers will create their own, personalized method for keeping track of their worldbuilding, and how to stay consistent in their stories, even when making changes during the writing process.
Class Format
Savvy Authors' workshops are held on a forum: a bulletin board based system. You will receive a reminder notice one day prior to the start of the workshop that includes instructions on how to access the workshop forum. If you have not received instructions by the day the workshop begins, please check your spam filter.

The forum will be available the morning (EST) of the day the workshop starts and will remain accessible to all participants thereafter. You will also be given simple instructions on how to create a PDF of all your discussions along with our privacy and data retention policy.
