Writers have been playing with point of view since they have been putting words on caves and scrolls. There is a subtle difference in the various types of point of view and how to use them to best enhance the story.
In this workshop we are going to explore the eleven different types of point of view and how the different masters used them in their work. We will then be exploring how to use the different types in our own work.
We will be learning from such masters as: Dorthy Parker, Joyce Carol Oats, Alice Munro, John Updike, Amy Tan, Raymond Carver, John Cheever, James Baldwin, Margaret Atwood, and Eudora Welty.
Textbook is required:
Moffett, James, and Kenneth R. McElheny. Points of View: An Anthology of Short Stories. New York: Penguin, 1995. Print
