    Moderator Note Thank you!

Thanks so much, Marie. I deeply appreciate your participation in this course! It's been a pleasure getting to know you. Of course, you have my persmission to post on WriteLikeRowling. About the Boy Who Lived... They are not repeats of what is in this course, though it covers some of the same...

Thank you, Lyn, for your kind words. I'm so glad you found the workshop helpful! To everyone -- I always enjoy presenting this workshop because I always learn something new as well as meeting some really wonderful people. I truly hope you'll keep in touch with me through Twitter. Will love to...

Thank you so much, Lyn, for putting this together. It looks fabulous! I love all the pics you hunted out and know you put a lot of time and effort into it. I deeply appreciate it! Thanks so much, Susan

Lecture Bonus Lesson: Throwing Snowballs at Quirrell

Thanks so much, Lyn! And I totally agree with you about Whedon's sense of humor. To me, I think laughter and music are two of the things that unite us as humans, that touch us deeply, and we need to see this come across in our writing in some form, at least the humor, even during the high drama...

Lecture Bonus Lesson: Throwing Snowballs at Quirrell

Hi All, I'm re-uploading the file from last night on Humor. If you've already downloaded the first version, there are no significant changes. Just a few tweaks on wording and typos. Also, as a final assignment, would love it if you shared a passage of humor from your own WIP and how it is used...

Lecture Bonus Lesson: Throwing Snowballs at Quirrell

Hi All, I'm sorry that this took me so long to post. I had a couple of things I had pushed off until after the time for the regular class to end that couldn't be put off any more, plus I'm a slow writer. Please keep in mind that this is basically a first draft. It will not be as polished as...

Lecture Bonus Lesson - Flying High Above the Quidditch Pitch

I do like the pitch in this one. Really interesting and getting more high concept. As far as surprising the reader -- you can have different pitches for different purposes. A pitch that you put together for an agent or editor does not need to hide secrets because they need to know everything...

Lecture Bonus Lesson - Flying High Above the Quidditch Pitch

One thing that I think is missing in your sentence pitch, especially if it's to be high concept, is the whole Satan's son thing. That's your high concept right there. Especially the part of his not knowing he was. Either phrase it as he's just found out or coming to terms or something like that...

Lecture Bonus Lesson - Flying High Above the Quidditch Pitch

Marie, I've heard like you have about some authors/publishers manipulating their way onto the bestseller list. To be honest, it's not something I've thought enough about to research to see if that's common or rare. But for the sake of clarity, let me phrase it in a better way -- the books I'd...

    Discussion Chat Schedule?

Thanks so much, Lyn, for the reminder about the chat. And thank you so, so much for putting the PDF together and adding the pics! Can't wait to see it. As for the chat...I'm still willing to do it a couple of days after the last lesson posts IF people want to. So, if people respond saying they...

Lecture Lesson 12: Making a Magical Impression in the Muggle World

That analysis of the chart sounds really intriguing. I'll have to go look at it. Thanks so much for letting us know, Marie. As for banging off the article on humour -- I'm not known for writing quickly. So it will probably be a couple more days. ;-)

Lecture Lesson 11: Draco Loves Hermione...At Least in Fan Fiction

Marie, if you're just learning about fan fiction and slash, I should make one thing clear. I'm not an expert in either field. I don't write fan fiction, though I have read some of it...mostly things friends of mine have written. I've listened into the world, though, because I find it...

Moderator Note C'mon in and say hi!

Thanks, Lyn. I won't need a month, lol, but a couple more days will be nice!

Lecture Lesson 11: Draco Loves Hermione...At Least in Fan Fiction

Yes, you understood correctly. I can't remember how she dealt with it now, it's been so long ago. I think she may have asked them to take it down. But, of course, you're right. It's plagiarizing.

Moderator Note C'mon in and say hi!

Hi Lyn, What day do we have to vacate this classroom? I might need an extra day to get the lesson on humor ready. Susan

Lecture Bonus Lesson - Flying High Above the Quidditch Pitch

Hi All, This lesson is on high concept. As explained inside, high concept is not something you must have, but it really helps if you do. Assignment: Think about whether your WIP has a high concept. And, if it does, see if you can simmer it down into one line, then share here. Also, I know...

Lecture Lesson 12: Making a Magical Impression in the Muggle World

Lyn, I totally agree with you about JKR's new site. I find it hard to navigate and nowhere near as fun to use as the old one. Good luck with getting your new site going. One of the features I like best on my own website is the stats. I like knowing who hits my site and what is drawing them in...

Lecture Lesson 11: Draco Loves Hermione...At Least in Fan Fiction

I agree w/ you, Lyn, about preferring no x-rated stuff. But it happens. I had a historical romance writer friend, who years ago stumbled upon one of her sex scenes online that had been rewritten between Snape and Hermione (that was the reference in my lesson). Extremely ick moment! All they did...

Lecture Lesson 12: Making a Magical Impression in the Muggle World

As if knowing what our topic is today, publisher Lee and Low blogged about what needs to go on an author's website. You can check it out here: http://blog.leeandlow.com/2015/04/08/book-marketing-101-what-to-put-on-your-author-website/
