Revision Breakdown (Three Parts)
Revision is a difficult process that a lot of writers struggle with, so in this series of workshops, we’ll walk through the process, focusing on one section of the novel at a time, demystifying and the process and making it fun, too. Each workshop will focus on general revision techniques to identify specific big picture issues with plot and character by having participants answer questions about their work in order to self-evaluate what needs improvement.
Part 1: Revising the Beginning
In this workshop, the focus will be on revising the beginning of your novel. You will have an opportunity to ask questions or post excerpts for feedback. The key takeaways will be:
• Great first lines/first pages that pull in readers
• Choosing what information to include so that your reader understands the story, without bogging them down with too much exposition
• Identifying and fixing issues with story, character, and plot
• Making the first thirty pages an engaging read for potential editors/agents
Part 2: Revising the Middle
In this workshop, the focus will be on the middle section of your novel. You will have an opportunity to ask questions or post excerpts for feedback. The key takeaways will be:
• Avoiding/fixing the soggy middle
• Making sure the middle builds tension in the novel
• Keeping track of and developing subplots
• Identifying and fixing issues with story, character, and plot
Part 3: Revise Your Ending
In this workshop, the focus will be on revising the end of your novel. You will have an opportunity to ask questions or post excerpts for feedback. The key takeaways will be:
• Making the climax as exciting as possible
• Finding the right spot to end the novel
• Making the last three chapters as strong as possible
• Leaving your reader satisfied
• To epilogue or not to epilogue

- Savvy Authors' workshops are held on a forum: a bulletin board based system. You will receive a reminder notice one day prior to the start of the workshop that includes instructions on how to access the workshop forum.
