The SCBWI is a must for any writer of children's literature.

They have fantastic conferences around the country; local chapters which offer networking and lessons about writing for children.

There are several levels.

Associate -- for anyone interested in children's lit or who have been published in other genres and media.

Full Member -- only those published in the children's literature world

PAL (Published and Listed) for those published by traditional means with a publisher that doesn't charge the author, supplies an editor at no cost to the author, and has a wide distribution system for books. Only PALs can distribute books at conferences.
