Discussion Chat Schedule?

Hi All,

I'd like to schedule a couple of one hour chats between now and the end of class. It seems very hard to schedule a chat that everyone can make, but if we schedule a couple, hopefully everyone can make one.

For me, the chat is a good time to maybe ask any questions that haven't been answered yet, share ideas or resources, that sort of thing.

I think it would be good if we could do one this weekend. Sunday afternoon or evening would be better for me. And then schedule one for a day or two after the very last lesson posts so that we can cover everything.

Let me know a time (and time zone, I am in EST) that works well for you. And Lyn, what are our options on a chatroom?

Thanks!

Lecture Bonus Lesson - Flying High Above the Quidditch Pitch

Hi All,

This lesson is on high concept. As explained inside, high concept is not something you must have, but it really helps if you do.

Assignment: Think about whether your WIP has a high concept. And, if it does, see if you can simmer it down into one line, then share here.

Also, I know I have a couple of posts to respond to, but it will have to be later today.

Thanks!
Susan

Lecture Lesson 12: Making a Magical Impression in the Muggle World

Hi All,

I'm posting this one sooner than I'd planned for a couple of reasons. The lessons are shorter now, plus I'm hoping to include an extra lesson on humor. Also, I just discovered another bonus lesson on high concept that I'd forgotten about. So will post that one tomorrow and then the humor (hopefully!) by Sunday. (Gotta write it first :)

When you read this post about the business end of publishing, there is one aspect that is outdated. JKR's personal website is no longer the one described. And to be honest, I liked the older design better. It was so much more fun. But it was all Harry Potter, and she's so much more than that now. Do any of you remember the old site, with the hidden items you could click on?

Anyway, instead of updating this bit, I left it as is for now because I believe it was that older website with its secrets and HP like theme that was so much a part of building her fandom at the time. I'll check and see if there is a wayback image somewhere I can post.

For your assignment, you can either evaluate your social media presence and whether you want to make any changes, OR consider your own author myth and the story you want told about yourself. Then put this into a brief (1-2 paragraphs) bio and share with us. Gear this bio to something that you would use either in a query letter or on your website or to go out with promotional material for your newly released book.

Thanks!
Susan
