Clean Romance

The Wild Rose PressCurrently looking for: Acquiring clean (language and sensuality) romance in lengths from 7500 words to 100,000 words. Personal preferences are reunion, second chance at love, and single parent stories. Start with action, not backstory, and relate the plot details with active writing that includes lots of description and sensory details. Don’t submit a novel that is 85% dialogue. In Sweetheart, readers want to get inside the protagonists’ heads and know why they act in the way they do.

About Leanne: The Wild Rose Press opened its door on May 1, 2006 and I joined in July of that year, taking on the Sweetheart line. I worked for another small press publisher for two years prior, and I’ve done freelance editing for twenty years, in addition to years spent working in the secretarial field.

Mick, the plot sounds quite emotional. Send me a query consisting of email listing specifics about the manuscript, your writing background, with a several paragraph synopsis. Then attach the partial manuscript which is the first three chapters and the last chapter (and epilogue, if one exists) saved in one file named REQ_ManuscriptTitle. [email protected]

      Hi Leanne,

my thanks for your interest in 'Three Little Words' as well. As per your advice, I've sent you the information for 'Flirty Something', though will be very happy to send you the requirements for this novel too, the first in a potential four bok series, if and when you request.

      Kindest regards,

Title: The River Between Us
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 85,000
Author: William C. Pennington

Tom Nelson inhabits a fantasy world where sex and love come packaged together in a moment of casual intimacy, yet he doesn't understand why true love eludes him. While working in the Philippines and Thailand, Tom discovers there is more to love than pleasure zones and breathless whispers. A brazen Marie and a quirky Sasi challenge his perceptions of female-male relationships, while a hopeful Aida waits patiently for Tom's return.

Thank you, Leanne, for giving me this opportunity to share my story.

William, several words in the pitch—“sex” “intimacy” “pleasure zones”—lead me to believe the sensuality level is not a good fit. The Sweetheart line is for clean & wholesome stories with no depicted sexuality. Look at the company website (thewildrosepress.com) under Submissions and decide which of the other lines (Champagne or Scarlet) best suits your novel then follow guidelines to submit through the queryus email.
      Leanne,
I understand, and thank you for the feedback. There are no explicit sex scenes - my mom could read the book :) Everything is at the kiss level, nothing more. I also refrain from using curse words instead using action, circumstance, and description to convey emotion.
I tried to write the book the way I describe Aida: "Aida. Sweet and lovely like the opera."
Thank you, though, for taking the time to respond. It's always good to receive any response at all.
      Best, Will
Oh, I will look at the other lines, but I'm afraid my novel's heat is more of a 98.7 degree temperature than "Zowie Ouch!"

Jennifer, the pitch doesn’t include title, word count or genre but the plot sounds like a cozy mystery. If that classification fits, I encourage you to look at the company website (thewildrosepress.com) under Submissions and decide which of the other lines (Crimson or Mainstream Mystery) best suits your novel then follow guidelines to submit through the queryus email.
