We all needed another deadline like a hole in our heads. We thought at times we were crazy. Heck, other people told us we were crazy. But we didn’t listen to any of them. And some of us had to push our deadlines back a little. Not so as to be really bad, just a bit of tweaking here and there. The rest of us hyperventilated and scolded our dogs, who didn’t listen. Well our husbands haven’t been listening for decades.
Unlike some of the great writer stories about authors coming together with the choir singing and twinkle lights descending from upon high, we just jumped into the swamp and put together what I think is the best anthology I’ve ever read. And we’re releasing it on Veteran’s Day. Today. And it’s all about veterans. To our knowledge, this is the ONLY ANTHOLOGY RELEASING ON VETERAN’S DAY.
Most of our group has served this country’s military, or had a very close family member who did: not a grandfather, but husbands, sons, and fathers. Generations of family members who have proudly served this country. Served so we can run around and do all the crazy things at RT and RWA and other conferences we can’t mention. So we have the freedom to publish wonderful stories about heroes and heroines and the power of love over evil.
Three of the stories are about SEALs. One is about a wounded warrior and how he finds that the hero still remains within himself, regardless of his disability. If for no other reason than to say thanks or learn how to write about these great heroes, you should buy this book. How’s that for a shameless plug?
I have found a huge readership dying for these stories. Why? Because they are the ordinary guys with no special powers except dogged determination and the code of honor that puts everyone, especially innocents, in front of their own needs. They don’t just dress up in tights and “transport”—no offense there, because I write them too—or mind meld to change a situation into something of their choosing. They shed blood like we change our clothes, and don’t expect any tickertape parades.
In an age where there is a real lack of heroes, I love the idea of giving women (and a few men) exactly that: sweet dreams and the fantasy love of a lifetime, and just because we love them, we become better people.
There is no other thing on the planet I’d rather do. Give us a break and tell all your friends about our all-military anthology.
